[prMac.com] Boston, Massachusetts - MSD Services introduces ManManLai Chinese 1.0, a new mobile app for iPhone and iPod touch. ManManLai Chinese is a personal learning tool combining a fully-searchable Chinese-English dictionary with a flash card and organizational system.
ManManLai is designed to be a personal learning organizer that stays with a Chinese learner throughout the months and years of study and mastery. It promotes both structured learning and free-form exploration of the language.
At its core, ManManLai is built on a Chinese-English dictionary containing over 100,000 entries. The entire corpus is searchable allowing for quick look-ups by Chinese Hanzi characters, Pinyin romanization, and English definitions.
Integrated into the corpus are test preparation vocabulary lists for the standardized Chinese proficiency exam (HSK) administered in mainland China. Beginner to advanced level vocabulary are divided across four lists.
The app maintains a global History list of viewed entries, and search results are saved in chronological order. Both features allow for instant recall and review even days later. Frequently viewed entries are automatically flagged, calling out unlearned vocabulary.
Learners may create any number of named Learning Sets and add entries from across the corpus, promoting both formal and ad-hoc organizational schemes. Learning Sets may be emailed to friends and classmates.
The fully-integrated flash card system is easily invoked, making any Learning Set, History list, or test preparation vocabulary list instantly available for a practice session and quick review.
Chinese words and phrases are fully cross-referenced and decomposable into their constituent components and characters, revealing meaning and morphology.
Both simplified and traditional Chinese characters are supported, and a preference for one may be set globally and changed on the fly. Chinese handwriting recognition using iOS Chinese keyboards is fully supported. Two indexes organize characters by radical and stroke count. The user interface is designed to be uncluttered and focused.
