[prMac.com] London, United Kingdom - Base 2 Solutions today is pleased to announce Walkabout for iOS, their puzzle game with a twist, for Kids and Adults. Players must plan a route, walking across a beautifully drawn 3D environment consisting of tiled squares, and pick up all the stars on the level. The difficulty and challenge arise when players realize that they cannot navigate over the same tile twice.
Players score points based on puzzles completed and the time required. Particularly strong in the Middle and Far East, the game is in the Top 100 Role Playing Games in 17 App Stores and Top 200 in 44 stores.
It is not uncommon in playing Walkabout to collect all the stars successfully, but one. And that final star cannot be reached from where the player is standing. This game offers the kind of brainteasers that drive kids to keep playing the same puzzle over again for hours, and drive adults to distraction. There is an additional level of complexity, because some squares have raised walkways. Treading on the walkway causes it to disappear, however it may reveal further stars beneath it. The player must then navigate to another ramp to return to the ground level.
Walkabout was originally designed for adults, but as the developer explains, there was a change of direction after some interesting feedback from initial customers. "We originally designed Walkabout with a very steep increase in difficulty as it was targeted at Adult puzzle fans. Despite the cute graphics, the game is deceptively challenging and becomes a real brain-scratcher!
Our initial customers told us their kids were immediately drawn to the game by its colorful icon. They would automatically choose Walkabout from the games installed on their parents' devices. Their attention was kept by the very simple control interface, colourful graphics, and logical 'thinking' gameplay. However, after a few levels they would ask their parents for help as the levels became too challenging. Parents were overjoyed by the interaction and enjoyment of solving the puzzles with their children.
We considered simplifying the game, or creating a simpler kids version, but customers were in fact asking us to leave it alone, as 'solving together' was a great experience. Listening to this and other feedback, we increased the number of levels in the game to 72, and slightly decreased the steepness of the difficulty from level to level. As some later levels are extremely difficult we also added a 'walkthrough' to our website, to help parents who would email us asking for solutions!
The result has been an outstanding success, with over 200,000 free and paid downloads across all platforms, in less than 4 months. Having ported to other platforms, Walkabout has continued to follow the same trends there. For example, it has generated correspondence from Google and Amazon, and was featured on their respective stores."
The developers have provided an explanation of the game world, "Queenie needs your help collecting the Magic Stars scattered throughout her kingdom. But be careful, one wrong move could leave you trapped with no way out. There are 64 levels to negotiate, split across 4 regions of the kingdom. Along the way, you'll find keys to unlock 8 further Bonus levels. You'll have to be at your best to complete them all!"
