A Good App Store Name - Both Unique and Generic

[prMac.com] Lakewood Ranch, Florida - Newly launched My Pal Apps today announces a name change to Happi Papi. With only six months in the app development business the US-Swedish joint venture feels the need to change its name. The early change of heart is due to one thing only - App Store visibility. Happi Papi realized it had to do something when it was investigating why its app "I Read HD" sold almost nothing in the US during June while at the same time it was the #1 Kids Game in Sweden.

We realized that our app name was too generic, says Patrick Larson who heads up the US side of Happy Papi. We could hardly find the app ourselves while searching the App Store! In Sweden our app gained traction by itself for some reason and everything went smoothly all the way to the #1 position. In the US our app sold really well the first few days after its release. Once it fell back on the "Apps by Release Date" view on the iPad, nobody could find it anymore. In that case it doesn't matter that you have a great app.

You need a unique word in your company name and in all app titles, says Jens Ode co-founder of Happi Papi. Without that you will still end up way down on the list when someone searches for your name or app on the App Store. But that is not all, continues Jens. You need to combine your unique word with a descriptive, more generic word as well. If not, your app will lose its chance to show up when a broader subject area search is made.

Using that logic, we decided to re-brand ourselves to Happi Papi and use the unique name "Happi" in all our app titles combined with a descriptive word explaining what the app is about. For example, former "I Read HD" now becomes "Happi Reads HD", concludes Patrick Larson.
