[prMac.com] Munich, Germany - Linguatec Language Technologies has announced Voice Reader 2.1.0, their reading program for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, which reads any text in 21 languages. For many of these languages there are different male and female voices. Jacob reads, or sometimes Olivia, or perhaps Kate, William, Miguel or Carmen.
What can I have read to me?
Of course, all texts that you have typed in the Editor or Copy & Paste texts from the Internet, emails or other texts. Additionally, the exchange of documents (iDocument Interaction) between apps for text files in Unicode / UTF-8 format is supported. But Voice Reader doesn't stop there! You can even put text files, which are saved on the PC or MAC as txt-files in Unicode format directly into iTunes using the Voice Reader and have them read to you. Thanks to the new Multitasking-Function, Voice Reader runs easily in the background while you, for example, look at photos or take notes.
Why have something read to me?
It is clear that reading, particularly on the iPhone or iPod is tedious. Listening is much easier. This way you can listen to presentations, documents, speeches, notes or have exam material read to you or even create your own audio book. Maybe you just want to write a story - create an audio file with Voice Reader and easily send it out as an email from the app to friends.
And not only the English voices are exciting:
Simply listen to foreign texts in order to practice pronunciation - Voice Reader is the perfect trainer. Perhaps you have an upcoming exam at school or work, or possibly an appointment in a foreign country. It is sure to help if you can listen to the presentation or speech in the foreign language - even in this case: Create a txt-file and put it in the app. And Claire, Julia, Carmen and many other Voice Reader voices can help you practice.
Is it online or offline?
Voice Reader makes 32 online-voices in 21 languages available. You can use these as often as you like and read up to 2,000 characters per file. Even more convenient is purchasing the voice you want for $0.99 and it is then available to you offline. The character limit is cancelled and you are independent from the Internet. Furthermore, the location in the text that is being read is marked, which is a useful advantage for audio books and foreign language texts.
Voice Reader 2.1.0 currently supports US English, Bokmål, Norwegian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.
* iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad
* Requires iOS 4.0 or later
