Fan Mail is Officially the Most Hated App in America

August 16, 2011 in Entertainment (E)

[] Jacksonville, Florida - One week ago Mark Kaye released a new app to the iTunes store called "Fan Mail." The app, available for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad turns anyone who downloads it into an "Instant Celebrity" by creating and sending personalized fan mail to each user. The critics emphatically hate it!

"It was designed to be a positive influence on people," explains Mark Kaye, a radio host who designed the app in his spare time. "I wanted regular people - teachers, doctors, volunteers - to experience the thrill and the boost in self-confidence that celebrities get when they receive fan mail." But within 24 hours of its release, critics of the app plastered the web with scathing reviews making it the "Most Hated App in America."

"New app feeds your delusions of grandeur and fame." - MSNBC

"This iPhone app reflects on the disturbingly precarious emotional state of the typical American." - Gawker

"App that helps you pretend you're famous is a joke." - Cafemom

"Fan Mail Is Officially The Saddest App Ever Released." - Spike

"I had no idea people would find the idea so appalling," says Kaye. "My vision was to create a motivational tool to help people get and stay inspired. I guess not everyone sees it that way."

While the critics continue to trash the app online, "Fan Mail" has received high marks from users and maintains a perfect five star rating in the iTunes store. The reviewers have nothing but positive things to say about "Fan Mail."

"I love this app. I think it's such a funny/cute/awesome idea!" - Jesse Lucas

"This app is great. It makes me smile at the end of my day when I see a letter from one of my 'fans.'" - Auri Inocencio

"It's a must have!" - William Pier

And sales for the first week have exceeded expectations. "People are downloading it, people are using it, and people are loving it," says Kaye. "I may have created the most hated app in America, but everyday I have an inbox full of fan mail. And for just 99 cents, you can too!"
