[prMac.com] Silver Spring, Maryland - PicPocket Books has announced Wendy Whale HD 2.4.1, for the iPad. Readers can discover many unusual and exotic animals in this new alphabet book app. We bet there are some animals in this book that you have never heard of. What fun for your child to discover the names of some very different animals in each page. You can guess the names and check yourself by tapping on the pictures to hear what they are called. The book takes you on a very clever alphabet journey where all the animal characters are performing some kind of activity that is funny and easy for your child to relate to. The illustrations are colorful and kid-friendly. See if you can figure out what literary style the author uses to describe the animals' actions.
"Who Will Wendy Whale Watch" is also available in traditional print form, but the iTunes versions for the iPad and the iPhone include additional interactive features. The child can read the book by itself or have a parent guide them through the process. By touching the letter, they can hear the letter. They can also tap on a particular animal or object and the name of the animal/object is spoken. Every page provides many ways the child can use the animated/sound features to enhance the learning process.
An alphabet book's obvious goal is to teach your child the alphabet. However, this book is more than that. It is opportunities to start a conversation about animals and their environment, about sounds, and also a delightful puzzle to discover on every page. "Wendy Whale" also introduces the concept of adjectives, and illustrates how they provide so much more of a visual when describing things. In addition, the author uses a lot of alliterations, two or more words starting with the same letter and sound. Each page is like a little puzzle for your child. The sentence in the page does not mention all the other things in the picture that starts with that letter. Help your child discover all the other things starting with the letter, use the touch activated sound effects to help you, or find your own things.
* Compatible with iPad
* Requires iOS 3.2 or later

Established in the spring of 2009, PicPocket Books was founded by the husband and wife team of Lynette and Manuel Mattke, who share a passion for children's literature and technological innovation. To download any of the PicPocket Books apps, please visit the iTunes App Store and search for 'PicPocket Books.' PicPocket Books offer parents and their kids an alternative to flashy, and sometimes violent, fast-paced video games. Their book apps have some simple animations and/or interactive hot spots to encourage exploration and engagement. Overall, they strive to remain quite faithful to the original books with their apps and want to be careful not to obscure the reading experience with too much interactivity. They champion books and reading aloud to kids, and see bookapps as supplements, not replacements, for print books and the valuable time parents can spend reading with their kids. If having kids' books available on mobile devices means more exposure to stories and enthusiasm for reading for kids, then that is a success! Copyright (C) 2011 PicPocket Books. All Rights Reserved.
