[prMac.com] New York, New York - Offset4Poor is an iPhone application that allows users to easily calculate their carbon (CO2) footprint from driving, flying, home electricity, waste and heating - they then have the choice to offset their footprint by paying for carbon saving projects among the poor in developing countries. The app is now available in the iTunes store.
"The goal of this app is to do something practical about global warming and poverty - one individual at a time. An average American offsetting through this app, in a year, would help four poor families cover their hunger gap by giving them dignified employment" says Mack Ramachandran, Entrepreneur with 14 years experience in working on poverty alleviation projects in developing countries. He also adds "It would be exciting to explore possibilities within the US for employment creation using this app, in the near-future".
People and Governments 'talk a lot' about global warming, unemployment, and poverty as being some of the biggest global problems. This app takes a stab at doing something practical at an individual/family level, both in the USA which accounts for around 25% of global carbon emissions; and in poor countries where people face increasing poverty due to droughts and floods caused by global warming.
The app does not claim to solve global warming or poverty issues - but is a step towards solving the issue and creating a better well-being for those in need. Given politicians' inability to do something bold about both poverty or global warming - this app allows individuals to take the responsibility in their own hands - be it the poor person in a developing country trying to feed his family by working hard or a someone in America trying to reduce his carbon footprint by driving less or offsetting what he/she cannot reduce.
