[prMac.com] Gent, Belgium - Skirent 1.1, the future in ski hire is here. Winter sport is still a booming business. With holidays coming soon, people are already dreaming away by images of romantic fondue nights and after ski drinks, but organizational issues are being thought of, too. On arrival in the ski village, the first day of a ski holiday is typically used for accommodation arrangements, obtaining of the ski passes and of course, rental equipment. But it doesn't have to go this way. A few years back big ski organizations tried integrating technology in this process with dubious online booking systems and electronic ski passes. The booking systems however, seem to give astronomical discounts up to 50%, but the price for the client seems to stay the same. Today however, a smartphone app has come to attention, which makes ski rental as efficient and honest as possible. With about 5% of an estimated 1,000,000 available apps being travel related, this can't be a surprise.
There has been a significant demand for such a communication system; smaller rental shops have had complaints concerning unfair competition against the big chains that rule in the ski rental industry. They are forced into collaboration with big organizations and have no choice but to accept the requirement for massive discounts. They actually lose money and freedom in the struggle to survive. Payments happen sometimes months later than the actual rental and changes in booking are problematic. The chains are crushing the image of the small family business in the Alps, and this is where SkiRent comes in. The system delivers new clients from all over Europe, creates a new form of marketing and all of this for a small percentage of the total rental price: the shop doesn't have to take any risk at all.
This way ski rental business becomes more durable. Quality and safety go first. The rental shops are carefully chosen and allowed into the system when they meet the SkiRent standard.
The client enjoys advantages too; the ski equipment is ready upon arrival, and he is sure it will satisfiy his safety and quality demands. Even before the booking he has been explained where the gear can be picked up and where this is compared to his accommodation. Changes in booking or cancellation are solved with a simple phone call or e-mail, when and wherever he wants. The fact the client is stimulating local economy by using his app, is a nice advantage too. SkiRent has been developed by experienced travel agents, skiers and snowboarders, and with participation of the ski rental shops themselves.
