[prMac.com] Spokane, Washington - PhatWare Corporation, a leading professional software and application developer, today is proud to introduce Penquills, the new revolutionary two-in-one custom keyboard for iPhones which utilizes PhatWare's state-of-the-art handwriting recognition. Penquills combines two different handwriting recognition technologies in a single application - single character recognition input when iPhone screen is in portrait mode as well as free-style "natural" handwriting recognition in landscape. Penquills can be set as a system iOS keyboard and used with any iPhone app and is localized in four languages: English (US and UK), German, French, and Spanish.
When iPhone is oriented vertically, the custom keyboard view is divided in 3 areas: the first is to write alpha characters, the second is for punctuation signs, and the last for numbers. Users can write single or multi-stroke characters and symbols, one at the time, while a popup view with a short timeout presents alternative recognition results for each character. Characters can be written in one or more strokes and a user can adjust short timeout for multi-stroke characters. When a character is recognized with high fidelity it is immediately sent to the target application to improve input speed. The autocompleted word list is updated as characters are written, which further improves input speed.
When iPhone is oriented horizontally, the input method area contains a single handwriting panel. Users can write one ore more words in their preferred handwriting style: cursive, print, or mixed. As a user writes, different suggestions for autocompleted words are presented dynamically above the handwriting area, allowing a user to select the right result even before finishing a word. Alternative recognition results are also presented in this view permitting users to quickly correct possible recognition errors.
Penquills automatically learns as it is being used, improving recognition quality over time and updating the word autocomplete lists. The app also includes a simple notetaker app that is perfect for configuring and testing handwriting recognition settings. Penquills input method is especially useful on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus because of bigger screen provides more space to write. The software is specifically designed for finger input but can be also used with any third party stylus.
