Codengineer releases Sparkz 1.0 for iPhone and iPod touch

October 13, 2009 in Games (F)

[] Madison, Wisconsin - Codengineer has released Sparkz 1.0, a remake of the vintage Mac game for iPhone and iPod touch. Focused on a unique gameplay experience, Sparkz is a tribute to classic arcade games of the eighties. Territorial war has been declared between the Sqix and the Stix. In this remake of a best selling vintage Mac game, players must conquer a super-majority of the Arena to move on to the next stage. Progress through 50 unique stages of game play to reveal 50 nature pictures along the way.

This action game requires dexterity as well as wit. Using gentle swipes or the devices accelerometer, players control diamond shaped Stix, moving safely along the Arena borderlines. Carefully venture inside the Arena to capture sections of it by tracing straight lines while avoiding the deadly rotating arcs of the Sqix. Outmaneuver the Sparkz and the SuperSparkz that follow on the Arena borderlines. As gameplay progresses, new game elements are introduced to help or hinder; making each new stage more challenging than the preceding ones.

"Sparkz was originally a Mac game in the early 90's, said Bob Donovan, founder of Codengineer. The original game was programmed by Marc Dutil in his college days. It was in the top 25 of Don Rittner's Mac Arcade recommended shareware. Marc contacted me in April to port the game to the iPhone and we worked together on the design."
