Very Alien Productions releases Trigonomics 1.0 for iPhone/iPod touch

October 12, 2009 in Education (E)

[] Westfield, Indiana - Very Alien Productions today is proud to introduce Trigonomics 1.0, their new professional level trigonometric app for iPhone and iPod touch. Designed specifically to leverage the iPhone's peerless interface, Trigonomics combines three essential tools for calculating triangles, understanding the unit circle, and graphing functions.

Perfect for students, professionals, or casual users alike, Trigonomics can effortlessly construct triangles when provided minimum side length and angle information, calculate the area and perimeter of triangles, display information for key angles around the unit circle, and plot up to three common trigonometric functions at the same time. If the user provided angles in one unit but want them in another, there is no need to erase and start over: Trigonomics will faithfully convert between degrees and radians on-the-fly. Users can also choose the number of digits displayed to the right of the decimal point with proper rounding displayed as needed.

Triangle Solver - Provide the right combination of triangle side lengths and angles (SSS, SAS, ASA, SSA, SAA) and Trigonomics uses the laws of sines and cosines to determine the rest. The application calculates the area using Heron's Formula and calculates the perimeter by summing the side lengths. It then draws the resulting triangle that can be rotated for perfect 2D visualization.

Trigonomics solves all triangles (right, acute, and obtuse) and will alert the user when entered values cannot create a triangle. It even detects the ambiguous case (two different possible solutions to the triangle) that can occur under special conditions when the user provides two sides and an angle opposite one of the sides.

Unit Circle - Users simply tap a standard angle position around the unit circle to lookup coordinates and to understand the key relationships between an angle and its sine and cosine.

Graph - Plot up to three common trigonometric functions at the same time. Draw once to 360 degrees or loop the graph continuously. The smooth and tranquil graphing provides a very pleasing interface for even the most frazzled user. Change the graphing speed to understand the functions and how they are related. Users have the option to see the unit circle being drawn as functions are plotted.

Feature Highlights:
* Constructs triangles when provided minimum side length and angle information
* Calculates triangle area and perimeter
* Triangles are drawn in 2D and can be rotated for perfect visualization
* Alerts user when a triangle cannot be created or is ambiguous
* Angles can be in degrees or radians
* Plot up to three common trigonometric functions at the same time
* All graphing occurs in real time

"The iPhone/iPod touch platform is an incredible tool for both education and enhancing professional productivity," said Jim Parshall, founder of Very Alien Productions. "I decided to start with trigonometry based on my own personal experience (I wish I had such a tool when I was in school) and seeing so many students with iPods. While Trigonomics is a great educational app, it also provides unique features that help with professional productivity as well. This is the first of a suite of apps we're hoping to launch to address the combination of education and productivity."

System Requirements:
* iPhone or Second Generation iPod touch 3.0 or later

Pricing and Availability:
Trigonomics 1.0 is only $1.99 (USD) and available exclusively through the App Store in the Education category. Review copies are available upon request.
