[prMac.com] New York, New York - Happy Sunshine Publishing today is pleased to introduce Pinky the Star for iOS, their new motivational eBook written for all girls ages four through eight. Written and illustrated to be inclusive of and relevant to girls from all cultural backgrounds, the eBook follows Pinky in her quest to become a Star. With the help of her family and the star friends she meets during her journey, she seeks answers to questions of her self-worth and identity. Her journey ends with a new understanding and appreciation of herself.
The 48 page eBook is written by Sunny Love and illustrated by Sam Papas, and is a deeply felt, universal story. The first page of the book introduces the reader to Pinky, a young girl wearing a T-shirt that says "Dreamer." She stands in front of a full length mirror and reveals, "'Somehow, someway, I wish I could be someone else. Anyone else but plain old me.' Pinky pouted in front of her mirror. 'I wish I could change my brown eyes to the color of the sea. Then maybe everyone would like me.'" Immediately, important issues that every young girl must face are hinted at, including: the role of physical appearance in achieving happiness, the need for love and acceptance, the desire to be popular, and the realization of the inner most self.
With her wish to be someone else, Pinky begins her imaginative and joyful journey of self discovery. Admiring their light, she talks with the stars in the sky to see if that is who she really wants to be. Through the book she talks with other kinds of Stars, and considers their lives in comparison to hers. Ultimately, she discovers that the she is already the greatest Star that she could ever dream of being.
Pinky the Star is a modern tale for today's kids that follows what Joseph Campbell called the "monomyth" structure. The heroine starts off in the ordinary world and then somehow receives a "call to adventure." The heroine must face tasks and challenges on her "road of trials." Finally, the heroine's quest comes to a close, having achieved some "goal" or self-knowledge. And she returns to the ordinary world, forever changed, and prepared to use her gift to help herself and the world. The first book in the series The Adventures of
Pinky the Star, the author and illustrator have created a very modern heroine in a very contemporary quest. Pinky is not a beautiful young princess or a helpless child in a patriarchal world. Instead, she is a very real and ordinary young girl who sets off on a most extraordinary quest. And this insightful and inspiring book leaves the reader looking forward to following Pinky on her next mythic adventure through the ordinary world of day-to-day living.
