DoodleDesk - The Whiteboard for your Desktop
January 20, 2012 in Mac OSX
[prMac.com] London, United Kingdom - Imaginary Roots today is thrilled to announce the release of DoodleDesk, the Whiteboard for your Desktop. The company's first Mac App Store release, DoodleDesk is a simple drawing application designed for people who love whiteboards.
Imaginary Roots founder and lead developer James Griffin describes the application: "DoodleDesk spans the work-play boundary, allowing you to make meaningful and useful diagrams, designs and ideas, whilst also letting you procrastinate in its most natural form - doodling. And who doesn't love doodling?"
DoodleDesk works by replacing the desktop background with a whiteboard surface, giving the user a platform to get their ideas down in a location that's always accessible from the system-wide show desktop hotkey. When it's not being used, the whiteboard sits behind the desktop icons, so the computer works as normal. When activated, either from the dock or by alt-tabbing, the application comes to the foreground and the whole screen is available for drawing on.
The application is designed to be simplistic - it provides only three coloured pens along with an eraser and a familiar stickies tool for adding text-based notes. This focus allows you to get ideas down quickly and without fuss, making DoodleDesk perfect for brainstorms, ideas, designs, plans, diagrams and more.
The app has been on sale for a week and initial uptake has been incredibly promising. As one user wrote: "I downloaded DoodleDesk this morning and have had a barrel of fun using it. It's the app I should have had 30 years ago!"
Use cases extend beyond simple doodling to situations such as presentations and teaching. The app's brilliance is in its simplicity - the user's imagination is free to run wild.
