Birdwatcher's Diary iOS App Adds Direct Uploading to eBird

in Lifestyle (E)

[] Cupertino, California - Stevens Creek Software, developers of Birdwatcher's Diary iOS app, has released version 5.0 of their birding checklist database app which allows birders to upload their bird sightings lists from the field to the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology bird species database called eBird. In addition, version 5.0 is the first iPad native version. Other advances include support for Dropbox, ability to import bird photos, and many other new features and ease-of-use improvements.

"Being able to upload their bird sightings directly to eBird from the iPhone will appeal to many birders. And this is just one of the new features in version 5.0. It's the most major upgrade we've done in the 3 years since Birdwatcher's Diary was available at the Apple iTunes Store." said Steven Patt, president of Stevens Creek Software.

With version 5.0, Birdwatcher's Diary is now available as an iPad native app. Other new features include:
* Ability to upload photos to the bird species notes.
* Dropbox support for saving and retrieving archived sightings.
* More versatility in the types of maps displayed.
* Download any of the many worldwide master bird lists available on the Stevens Creek Software web site directly from the app.
* Many tips, prompts and warnings to help the user access features and avoid data entry mistakes.

Previous versions of Birdwathchers Diary app, first released in June 2010, provided the ability to save a bird sightings list in the format required by eBird. Then the user had to transmit the list to his computer for uploading to the eBird database. With the new update, the birder can upload the bird sightings directly from the iPhone or iPad to eBird. eBird, a project of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, is an online database of worldwide bird observations submitted by ornithologists and amateur birders alike which provides researchers, scientists and the general public with real-time data about bird species sightings. It has gained much popularity amongst birdwatchers eager to contribute to the ever-growing body of knowledge about wild bird species distribution and abundance.
