Apple Community Made Black Beauty ebook for iPad Possible
October 30, 2012 in Books
[prMac.com] Oceanside, California - In deciding to bring Anna Sewell's beloved classic story Black Beauty to Apple's iPad using iBooks Author, Red Cat Dreams co-founder Jeff Shepard knew he could depend on the Apple Community for the support to make the ebook project possible. As a special "thank you" and to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Cecil Aldin illustrated version of Black Beauty, Red Cat Dreams is offering the ebook, Black Beauty for the iPad and upcoming iPad mini at 60% off for a limited time.
Jeff Shepard says: "We have a long history of using Macintosh computers and iOS devices and always loved the ease of use. But what many don't fully appreciate is the solid, community support." The co-founders relied on community resources for using Apple's tools, including iBooks Author, Garageband, Keynote, and Final Cut Pro to complete the project. Neither had any previous experience using these programs. "Apple gave us remarkable tools to work with, but the Black Beauty for iPad ebook would not have achieved success without a community willing to share their knowledge and expertise."
A resource used early on in the project was Don McAllister's respected online video tutorial services, ScreenCastsOnline. Shepard says: "There was little information available early on in using the new iBooks Author program and ScreenCastsOnline had the tutorials that gave us the information we needed to get the project started." "I am delighted my SCOtutor for iBooks Author application was able to help in bringing Black Beauty to the iPad in such a beautiful way," said McAllister.
"The result is the most beautiful, vibrant, and readable version of Black Beauty to come out in over 100 years," said Shepard. iPad users will be able to explore this perennial favorite - complete with striking illustrations - in a version that honors the vintage feel of the book - and more.
"The iPad and iPad Mini allows this classic story to reach a whole new generation of readers," said Shepard. Upcoming titles from Red Cat Dreams include a Spanish-language version of Black Beauty for the iPad (Azabache/Belleza Negra), followed by the books of Jane Austin, The Secret Garden, Around the World in 80 Days, and more.
As a "thank you" to the Apple community and to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Cecil Aldin illustrated version of Black Beauty, Red Cat Dreams is offering the ebook at $1.99, 60% off the regular price for a limited time. Then, Black Beauty will cost $4.99 to download from the iBookstore throughout North America, Europe, and Australia with a portion of the proceeds supporting animal welfare and education causes, per Anna Sewell's original intent. The unabridged book is readable in both landscape and portrait mode for the iPad, is retina-display ready, and will available for the iPad Mini.
