[prMac.com] Katy, Texas - Smart Apps for Kids, the most followed kids app review site on the web, is giving away ten iPad minis just in time for Christmas and the response has been overwhelming. When Smart Apps for Kids founder, Ron Engel, asked his team for ideas about what their readers might like to win in time for the holidays, one of them suggested an iPad Mini.
"I thought it was a great idea so I ordered one and we announced the giveaway on our Facebook page," said Engel. "None of us expected the tsunami of entries we received, literally thousands in the first day alone." "We approached a couple of app developers to see if they were interested in being sponsors so we could give away more Minis and it snowballed from there. Now we're giving away ten."
Started nearly two years ago, Smart Apps for Kids is the most visited website dedicated to reviewing iOS apps for children. The site, which has 25,000 fans on Facebook, also runs giveaways for apps and items likely to be of interest to parents, teachers and other professionals like speech therapists.
Engel and his team aren't surprised that iPad Minis have proven popular with this demographic - the Mini is lighter and easier for children to use than an iPad but having a larger screen than an iPod touch makes it perfectly suited for educational and other apps like books, that are either not available or can be difficult to use on a small device.
"The demand for an iPad Mini is enormous because people see its huge potential but many folks can't afford the $329 price tag it comes with," said Deanne Shoyer, part of the smartappsforkids.com staff. "I think this is why the giveaway has been such a massive success so far."
All ten giveaways can be found on the Smart Apps for Kids website, along as the guidelines for the contests:
* Anyone can enter, regardless of location
* It costs nothing to enter; all the related costs, including shipping, are being met by the sponsoring developers and Smart Apps for Kids
* The iPad Minis will be shipped to the winners in time for the holidays
"We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the other iPad Mini sponsors," noted Shoyer. "JustKidsApps, Plane Tree Family Productions, Match 3 Studios, Good Karma Apps, Les Trois Elles Interactive, Small But Kinda Mighty, Bacciz Apps, iStorytime, iLearnWith, iWorld Australia, NxtApp, Dr. Panda, Elfishki, Little Bit Studio, Super Smart, GazziliWorld, @Reks, 24x7 and Wombi."
"We may not be able to give away any more iPad Minis before the holidays as Apple's delivery time-frames can't guarantee that someone would receive it in time," said Engel, "but we have other giveaways planned for items that we think people would love to find under their tree. We hope people are having fun entering the contests and continue to follow the site in the new year."

Smart Apps for Kids strives for meticulousness and honesty in its reviews, both positive and negative. Our goal is to be the most complete source for parents and educators looking for reliable info on an app before making a purchase. Most kids apps review sites only publish positive reviews or reviews without any sort of rating, meaning that if an app isn't a good one, you won't find any info about it on their site.
