[prMac.com] San Francisco, California - Stepping Stone Mobile today unveiled Pen & Ink 2.4, a significant update to Pen & Ink, the simplest way to create beautiful watercolor paintings and drawings on the iPad(R). Pen & Ink 2.4 is redesigned with a robust new free version that includes all of the art essentials - numerous paintbrushes, pens, pencils, watercolor palettes and zoom. For people who want to take their art to the next level, the full version offers powerful artistic features such as smudge brushes, layers, custom color palettes and 25 unique brushes. The full version of Pen & Ink is easy to use for both professional artists and novices, and can be purchased within the app for $2.99.
The full version of Pen & Ink introduces 4 new smudge brushes enabling you to create smooth gradients by pushing the paint around your digital canvas. Dragging a smudge tool over hard lines softens them as much or as little as you want. The smudge brushes will help you create more natural highlights, shadows, and reflections, leading to realistic skin tones, skies, water scenes, still-life paintings, landscapes and more.
"Smudge is amazing!" says Da Plusshine, a professional iPad artist. "I love how natural and responsive it feels. There's absolutely no lag."
Pen & Ink includes four different types of smudge brushes, each with simple-to-use slides, controlling thickness and strength:
* Fan Brush - blurs the lines to create an even, silky gradient
* Water Brush - simulates the streaky diffuse flow of pigment through wet paper
* Finger - lets you smudge paint in a subtle, textured gradient
* Wet Finger - creates a more dramatic smudge like a finger in still-wet ink
With the full version of Pen & Ink, you can use Layers to paint strokes and designs on top of one another. The ordering of the layers can be easily changed. You can import photos, images and files from any other app and paint above or below it, a necessity for graphic designers and other multi-media professionals.
The customized color palette lets you create an infinite number of colors. Sliding your finger around the wheel of the palette will cycle through the spectrum of hues. By selecting a point in the triangle in the center of the wheel, you are able to control the saturation and brightness of the selected hue. This palette configuration allows you to quickly, simply, and precisely pick the color you want.
"I thought Pen & Ink was cool," says Da "but the full version takes my art to a whole new level."
