[prMac.com] Seattle, Washington - SeedCode today is pleased to announce GoMaps 0.67 for iOS, its unlocked template for FileMaker Go that lets users view records on an editable, interactive Google Map. By pasting the map into their layout, users can add an optional Map view to the standard List and Form views. Map boundaries and areas are customizable, as are map pin colors. Clicking any pin brings up a large popover window, which can display any selected fields from the FileMaker database, including photos. Buttons within the map can run scripts in the FileMaker Go file, such as jumping to a record in Form view, or marking a record complete. The app is also available for OS X and Windows, and sold as ProMaps 1.0.
* Scriptable maps for FileMaker Go
* Show your records in an interactive map
* Filter the map contents with database requests
* Add buttons and scripted actions to pins and details
* User defined detail contents including photos
* User defined pins colors and icons
* User defined borders and neighborhood outlines
* Unlocked for devs to modify and extend
GoMaps offers extremely valuable and highly usable capabilities to FileMaker Go mobile solutions. According to John Sindelar of SeedCode, "This maps package puts the scripting engine and relational database of FileMaker Pro at the service of Google Maps, so even non-technical people can create maps of their own data. And, those maps can now 'talk back' to their databases, running scripts right from within a record's details on the map: GoMaps lets you add your own buttons and scripts to Google maps."
Mr. Sindelar emphasized the highly complementary relationship between mobile apps and mobile maps, "Software developers are used to looking at a business and seeing inefficiencies in an office setting, but we're not used to looking at the mobile work environment, at the trucks in the parking lot, with the aim of maximizing ROI. Maps are the killer application of mobile devices, and our Maps Package lets developers put those maps in the service of their applications. And since 'offline' is THE use case for mobile apps, it's important to use an app framework that has syncing built it."
