Almost everyone has a phone or tablet and most play online games on their devices. Per Nielsen, the monthly time spent per person on mobile applications has increased from 23 hours and two minutes in the fourth quarter of 2012 to 37 hours and 28 minutes in the fourth quarter of 2014. Can game applications encourage exercising?
The Bemi App was developed with this issue in mind. This mobile game application rewards players with extra lives for exercising. Once a player runs out of lives, the player has the option to exercise for extra lives. The player will take an initial heart rate reading, and then exercise. After exercising, the player takes another heart rate reading. He/she is then awarded extra lives based on the difference in the heart rate readings. We hope to change the way people view exercising, to make it fun and rewarding to exercise.
