Asia Treasures - Shwedagon Pagoda for iPad - Historical Sites of Burma

More than a « pagoda » the Shwedagon Pagoda is a 98 meters high Stupa covered by thousands of gold leafs and surrounded by 64 small temples with four bigger temples at each of the cardinal points. In each temple all around the Stupa we find, of course, several Buddha statues as well as a huge 42-ton bell given by King Tharrawaddy in 1841.
 
It's also at the Shwedagon Pagoda that Peace Nobel Aung San Suu Kyi delivered her first political speech calling for democracy in a country ruled by the military since 1962. It is also there that her father, the general Aung San, hero of Burma's independence asked the British Empire to free Burma in 1946. And in 2007 the Shwedagon Pagoda was the rallying point of buddhist monks who demonstrated against the regime during the « safran revolution ».

Asia Treasures - Shwedagon Pagoda contains four chapters: Shwedagon Pagoda, Rangoon, Governor's Residence and Old Maps. The app functions in both portrait and landscape orientations, and has two modes of operation. In standard mode a translucent menu bar remains onscreen, which contains the Favorites, Menu, Map, Diaporama, and Gallery buttons, as well as the title of each chapter and a Wikipedia link. Photos remain onscreen indefinitely and the swipe gesture moves the viewer forward or backward. Users may zoom in by means of the standard two-finger spread gesture. In Diaporama (diorama + panorama) mode the menu bar disappears, and each chapter is displayed as a slide show, with photos onscreen 5 seconds each.
