[prMac.com] Florence, Italy - Independent developer Giacomo Balli today is pleased to announce My Book List 2.0 free for iOS, an update to his books app that allows users to easily track books they plan to read, as well as books that they have already read. The ideal repository for book recommendations gathered from friends, reviews, and other sources, the app will locate the actual book cover and store it on its iBook-like shelf or as an entry on a list. The app can also access all the book titles, charts, covers, descriptions, and acquisition options in any of the iBookstores worldwide, Amazon, and the free texts at Google Books.
* Create a personal library of books
* Information is retrieved from iTunes and Amazon
* Add manually (not via search), or scan barcode
* Snap picture of cover when manually adding book
* Includes charts of top paid/free books for all genres in all countries
* Book Genius feature (find similar titles)
* Touch link to view details for each book (and easily purchase)
* Entire library is locally saved/cached
* Syncs with Google Books (to fetch other books and backup in case something happens)
* 2 different library views (grid and list)
At launch in portrait orientation, the List view can be toggled to show a wooden bookshelf holding volumes, whose covers are on display, or a text list. The List view includes a thumbnail photo of the book's cover, the Author, the Title, a checkbox for Read, a user-definable text field for Recommended By, and buttons for Remove (delete from the app), Open (preview in iBooks, on Amazon, or on Google Books), and Find Similar (Book Genius feature locates books whose content is similar).
Bibliophiles can add any book title through the Add New button in the lower tab bar. There are text entry fields for Author & Title or Subject. Users lacking either the correct author or title can search with only one term and then select the correct volume from the results. Entering a classic work of fiction, the app may return 30 or more listings, each with a thumbnail book cover, Title, Publisher, and Author. Readers can instantly compare a variety of editions of the same book, free and paid, as retrieved from the databases of both Amazon and iTunes. Touching the Save button beside any listing saves it to the app's book shelf/list.
Books can also be input manually, without use of the search function. Users can type in the Author & Title, and may add the cover by shooting a picture of the book. The app also accommodates input of Titles via barcode scan of the book, a feature that is available as an optional, in-app purchase.
The third and last button in the tab bar, in addition to List and Add New, is Charts. From here users can browse book collections and charts with the aid of three filters, which are accessible as drop-down lists. The filters include: Country (any international iBookstore can be selected); Top Paid Books or Top Free Books; and Genre (All Genres, Arts & Entertainment, Biographies & Memoirs, Business & Personal Finance, Children & Teens, Comics & Graphic Novels, Computers & Internet, Cookbooks, Food & Wine, Fiction & Literature, Health, Mind & Body, History, Humor, Lifestyle & Home, Mysteries & Thrillers, Nonfiction, Parenting, Politics & Current Events, Professional & Technical, Reference, Religion & Spirituality, Romance, SciFi & Fantasy, Science & Nature, Sports & Outdoors, and Travel & Adventure). All titles retrieved by My Book List are displayed with a thumbnail of the cover, and can be instantly viewed in iBooks.
"Every day you hear or read about a book that sounds interesting - and now there's an app designed to help track all those books recommendations," commented developer Giacomo Balli. "My Book List is the personalized book list of all the books you've been meaning to read, and those you've read."
