[prMac.com] Ann Arbor, Michigan - Humble Daisy, Inc, has announced new crowdfunding initiative that, if successful, will make ProfCast for Macintosh, the company's flagship lecture recording and podcasting solution, Free for all academic users. Other incentives include copies of ProfCast HD before it is released to the public, t-shirts and site licenses for academic institutions. The project runs through February 23rd, 2011.
To fund the development of ProfCast HD for Macintosh Humble Daisy decided to leverage a relatively new concept called "crowdfunding". Crowdfunding is a way of raising money by attracting many small donations from a large group. Humble Daisy set a funding goal and people only pay if they receive enough pledges to reach the target.
We didn't want our crowdfunding initiative to just be about asking for money; We wanted to make it mutually beneficial." explained Humble Daisy CEO David Chmura. To do this Humble Daisy has created several very enticing incentives for contributors. "For example, right now the cheapest way to buy a copy of ProfCast for Mac is to contribute to our project. Donate a little more (still less than retail) and get the current version as well as a FREE upgrade to the new product." Contributions of $20 or more made by January 21st 2011 will have access to ProfCast HD 1 month before it is publicly released. Perhaps the most compelling incentive is that Humble Daisy has promised to make ProfCast 2.X for Macintosh completely free for educators if they reach their fund raising goal.
It's about the community. "We've never been in this for the money." explains Chmura. "The money allows us to continue to develop innovative solutions. The solutions allow us to meet and work with great people. That is what motivates Humble Daisy."
ProfCast has been popular as a still-image lecture recording app but lately people have been asking for motion video capture. ProfCast HD will be a simple and easy to use presentation/demo recording tool with motion video capture. This tool goes beyond the usual recording applications by adding chapter markers that use meta data so you can easily go back to any spot in the recording.
Humble Daisy has targeted Summer 2011 for the release of ProfCast HD if the crowdfunding initiative is a success.
