Fortunate Bear Acquires Pagehand - Renamed to Pagesmith

[prMac.com] Castro Valley, California - Fortunate Bear today is thrilled to announce that it has acquired Pagehand, a word processor for the Mac, from Pagehand.com. Fortunate Bear has renamed the application to Pagesmith, and will renew development in addition to providing support for existing Pagehand customers. A new version of the rechristened application, version 1.0.9, is available for immediate download.
Fortunate Bear indicated that it would develop the word processor with a continued focus on innovative UI and typographic features. Although Fortunate Bear declined to give specific details on future plans, it did indicate it would prioritize features based on customer feedback given to Pagehand.com.
"I am really excited about what Pagesmith can become," said Andy Finnell, Fortunate Bear's president. "Ross Carter did an amazing job with the first version, and I can't wait to take it to the next level. I hope both existing and new customers will come along for the ride."
Pagesmith is an elegant word processor for Mac OS X, focusing on creating beautiful documents. It presents an innovative user interface which keeps floating palettes and dialogs off the document text, an adaptive contextual toolbar, and a preference of text labels over icons. Pagesmith provides fine grained control over the document's typography, and uses PDF as its native file format to ensure their fidelity.
About Pagehand:
Pagehand was created by Ross Carter of Pagehand.com with the goal of looking at a word processor as a writing instrument rather than a cluttered hodge-podge of rarely-used features. MacWorld's reviewer declared that Pagehand "has the most elegant user interface of any word processor I've ever used," comparing Pagehand to a Mont Blanc pen.
Pricing and Availability:
The 1.0.9 version of Pagesmith is a minor update, and free for customers who purchased Pagehand through Pagehand's store. Otherwise it costs $39.99 (USD), and is available for immediate download from Fortunate Bear's website or from Apple's Mac App Store.
