Awesome Ball Generates Much Interest on the iPhone App Store

Provo, UT    Apr 02, 2009 in iPhone

[prMac.com] Provo, UT - Awesome Ball is a new free app for the iPhone and iPod touch. Awesome Ball uses the iPhone's accelerometer to let the user control various balls in a 3-D environment. Awesome Ball has made a big debut, logging over 30,000 downloads in its first week on the iPhone App Store. It is currently well within the top 50 free apps in the "Entertainment" category.

Awesome Ball lets the user choose from a set of built-in balls to bounce around including a basketball, soccer ball, and golf ball. Each ball acts differently and realistically, thanks to the integrated ODE physics engine. Awesome Ball also utilizes OpenGL to produce realistic graphics.

One of the major strengths of Awesome Ball is the ability to customize the ball and environment. Users can customize the ball and walls with their own images taken from the iPhone camera or from the photo library on the device.

"Awesome Ball is not a game, per se," reports Brian Pratt, one of the developers of Awesome Ball. "It is more accurately categorized as a toy. Awesome Ball is great for showing off what the iPhone platform can do as far as accelerometer control and graphics go. Users most enjoy the customization features, allowing them to create their own custom ball."

Awesome Ball is now available for free on the iPhone App Store.

Awesome Ball was created by Jonathan Johnson and Brian Pratt, both graduate students at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT.
