[prMac.com] Tokyo, Japan - Basic Inc. has announced that it will distribute the Strike the Match smartphone app (released in August 2012) in the app markets of nine counties of ASEAN.
Strike the Match, or BURNT MATCH 1.7.0, is a simple yet captivating casual game in which players try to light as many matches as they can while avoiding characters other than matches. After its release in Japan in August 2012, it ranked overall number one in free apps at both the App Store and Google Play, and it has reached a total of 3.5 million downloads.
For this entry into the app markets of nine countries of ASEAN (Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, and Brunei), the game has been localized in Thai and English. Through promotions geared to each market, Basic's goal is a total of 1 million App Store and Google Play downloads.
In Japan's app market in recent years, the release of a popular free game app has led to the sales of merchandise and the broadcast of TV programs featuring the app and its characters, so in an increasing number of cases game-related business is not limited to the game app itself. For the Strike the Match series, the distinctive characters appearing in the app have been marketed in UFO Catcher arcade crane games and in capsule-toy vending machines, and Basic is also looking at possibilities for developing those characters globally.
With this game as an example, Basic will be verifying the benefits of promoting Japan-developed free game apps in the ASEAN region, and it will leverage the resulting know-how by applying it to other apps.
