[prMac.com] Seattle, Washington - babyCalm 2.0, the new iPhone app update by Synthetic Kids designed to calm down fussy infants, is now available in the iTunes App Store. The app uses a robust set of capabilities from the iPhone device - including sound, visuals, vibrations, and calming ideas for parents - to provide a toolbox for calming down crying babies.
"We found that there were a good amount of white noise generator apps in the store already, but nothing using all the features of the iPhone." says Co-Founder Chris Kerns, a recent new father who beta tested the app on his son during it's development. "If babies could comprehend the iTunes store, cause and effect, mobile devices, and basic economic theory, we think they would buy the babyCalm app. But they can't, so we're relying on parents to buy this app for them. It's a bit of a problem with the business model, but we're working around it."
Synthetic Kids has been field testing a new feature of babyCalm dubbed "The Closer." The feature combines visuals and sounds to calm crying babies in seconds flat. "We haven't come across a test where it hasn't performed."
"After that realization, the baby iPhone app goldrush was on." says Co-Founder Art Kerns. "Other iPhone dev shops out there have been chasing vaporware like social integration, Twitter APIs, geolocation, and augmented reality. They've totally forgotten about one thing. Babies," finished Kerns. "Tiny little babies."
It appears that the beginning of what will clearly become the new "it" market in iPhone apps has been born in the iTunes App Store. "We're establishing a beachhead in the short term, and then using our leverage and brand recognition to control our mobile-child-calming market share at a level that we think will offer the best ROI over time." says Chris Kerns, coining the new app segment as "the next big thing." More apps are already in the works, and Synthetic Kids is fighting to stay on the top of the game that will no doubt be the talk of the tech sector through the remainder of 2010.
"This sector is more than just a passing fad. It's got the power to change your level of electronic-mobile-app-child-calming in a lasting way. In two years time, people will be asking Fortune 500 firms three things: what's your digital presence like, what's your social strategy, and how are you using your phone to calm down your baby? Those firms better have an answer, because you can be sure their competition will."
