[prMac.com] San Francisco, California - The Third Annual Best App Ever Awards nominees have now been announced and the voting is open. Sponsored by 148Apps, the third annual competition is the iPhone OS Application achievement awards to recognize the best iPhone and iPad apps and games in the iTunes App Store in 2010. Also seen as the People's Choice awards of the App Store, the goal of the awards is to help publicize the very best apps available, not just the best-selling apps.
The nomination process lasted just under a month and saw 87,138 nominations for 2,891 different apps submitted to the site. That's well over 3 times the number of nominations the awards saw last year. New this year is the iPad division. Each category has 10 nominees for iPhone and iPad applications.
In addition to the individual overall application categories, the top 10 nominees overall are up for the award of Best App Ever. These nominees include Angry Birds from Clickgamer, Eliminate Pro from ngmoco, Inc., Infinity Blade from Chair Entertainment Group, LLC, Pocket Frogs from NimbleBit, Pocket Legends (3D MMO) from Spacetime Studios, LLC, Pulse News Reader from Alphonso Labs Inc., Real Racing 2 from Firemint Pty Ltd, Red Nova from Colin Walsh, Samurai II: Vengeance from MADFINGER Games, a.s., and Solipskier from Mikengreg.
Winners in each category will be chosen by the people that know the apps best, the users of these great apps. Voting is open through January 25th, 2010. Winners will be announced at the 2011 Macworld Expo in San Francisco, CA and will be posted to the Best App Ever site shortly thereafter. For a full list of the nominees in all categories, please refer to the web site or the text list.
